Hug-a-Bub Baby Carrier Reviews Hug-a-Bub Baby Carrier Reviews
Product: Hug-a-Bub Baby Carrier Hug-a-Bub Baby Carrier

Date: Monday 30 August, 2004
Review:

I had been searching for the ideal carrier to protect my back and support my baby well. I had tried a number of them, without much enthusiasm, then I came across the Hug-a-Bub. A web search showed Free Range Kids to be the cheapest provider - not least because they were not greedy with the postage! Their service was excellent and, after a friendly chat on Friday afternoon, I received my package first thing on Monday morning.

I was not sure at first because I had been looking for a carrier that allowed back carrying and was currently favouring the Wilkinet. But once I tried the Hug-a-Bub with 4-month-old Benedict for a church service and long reception, I didn't want to part with it. So much more comfortable than the Tomy or Baby Bjorn (although my husband has kept that for ease of use for him). So much smaller to store and pack than the frame or structured carriers. And so much more convenient than the Wilkinet as you can put on the Hug-a-Bub at home and then simply pop in the baby from the car seat (rather than juggle the baby and then wrap a carrier round you in a windy carpark). So far I have found five other great advantages of the Hug-a-Bub in the mixed weather this summer: (1) when it rains, is sunny or windy, the sling can be pulled over his head, and down over his feet for protection .. and over your shoulders when cold; (2) the thin fabric is not too hot for either of us when it is sunny, and can be pushed back to get more air; (3) It is simple to turn Ben around from facing in for a sleep to facing outwards, without undoing the carrier; (4) the long ends work well as wipes for spills! (although as I am small, I have since shortened the surplus length, and now store the cut-off ends/wipes in the front pocket). I guess the pocket is a fifth advantage.

I was concerned about whether I could justify the cost for a front-only carrier, which will only be used for a number of months but realised that as it was so comfortable, it would be very well used within that time. When Ben is too heavy for front carrying, I will experiment with the Hug-a-Bub as, theoretically, it could be used on my back - albeit with an assistant! Or I will have to think again. One word of warning, you will need to keep the Free Range Kids website address handy because when you wear the Hug-a-Bub so many people notice that it looks good and practical, they want to get one for their child or grandchild!
